Cultural Match is Key
Matching a candidate to the requirements of the job is one thing. Finding someone that can match the company’s culture can be an entirely separate and distinctive consideration. This is another example of how Ag 1 Source goes the extra mile to find the best candidate to employer placements.
What is a cultural match? Most companies have developed a defined market approach, one that customers can identify with, such as, the integrity that life insurance companies want to portray. Certainly, if we were to purchase life insurance and pay over time, we wouldn’t want to be worried about the stability or financial health of the company. In order for those companies to portray their integrity, they must hire people that also exhibit high integrity.
Some companies market on a price message, that they won’t be undersold. Those companies are going to take a different approach than the company that advertises that they’ve been in business for more than 80 years. In turn, that can mean those potentially contrasting companies also would likely benefit from completely different personalities. One may hire a highly assertive and aggressive marketer, and the other, someone that exhibits exemplary integrity and customer retention skills.
In agriculture, many of the companies that Ag 1 Source works with are located in more rural areas. If a candidate that is considering a position is much more comfortable in a more metropolitan environment, then that candidate may not enjoy living without some of the conveniences that city life can offer. On the other hand, there are those that are simply more comfortable in smaller communities.
Making the right match means finding a new employee that is comfortable at home, in their community, and in the workplace. Many of the characteristics of a good match within the community can be discovered during initial interviews. The personality style match, however, is more complicated.
At Ag 1 Fonte, we believe that a good match requires analyzing both the candidate and also their potential supervising manager. In fact, we believe this is so crucial, that a good personality style match may be as much as half of the reason why one candidate will be a best match for the job. Far too often, people leave their jobs because of avoidable personality conflicts. The bottom line is, that a great match can mean a much higher level of engagement in a new employee’s job, and if skills are matched as well, then a new employee is much more likely to be a star performer.
